Ede Merkel

Musician and producer Ede Merkel was born in 1983 in Halle/Saale. After finishing school, he studied jazz and popular music at the Jazz Institute Berlin (HfM Hanns Eisler / UDK), majoring in saxophone and minoring in piano and flute. During his studies, he received an artist grant with his band “Ida Helms” at the Popakademie Mannheim, focusing on music business and management.

Ede has performed with numerous bands and ensembles, including Keimzeit the Youth Jazz Orchestra of Saxony-Anhalt, and various Berlin-based jazz, pop and electronic music projects. He founded several of his own groups, such as Ida Helms, FortuneJazzband, Miramode Orchestra, and his current solo project Eterich.

He has also worked as a producer, composer, arranger and bandleader for diverse artists and gained teaching experience in saxophone, flute, ensemble, and big band at the Free Music School Brandenburg and Potsdam.

Alongside his music, he has developed a growing passion for photography and videography, which he now integrates into his current solo project.

Ede’s current main project Eterich is a fusion of electronic and experimental music with jazz and pop influences, shaped into a club-ready sound.

As a multi-instrumentalist and live-looping artist, Eterich performs and layers most instruments in real time. His talent for blending genres makes him an emerging force in the electronic music scene.

With this project, he unites all creative processes — music, production, and audiovisual art — into one cohesive vision.
